On Wednesday, December 17, 2008 a devastating fire destroyed the Humane Society of Durham Region. Sadly, over 160 animals lost their lives. Nine dogs, two cats and one rat were rescued by firefighters.
Furry Fables was an opportunity for students in the community to contribute in a real and creative way, to help raise funds to build a new, state of the art building.
This book is filled with stories and poems and drawings, real and fictional, from students of all ages in the Durham Region. The stories are funny and heartbreaking, they contain sound advice on caring for pets (plus a creative way to convince your parents to get a pet), hilarious antics, and wonderful bright illustrations.
